About
I have been living in Mumbai since April 2003. I started my career after my MBA here at a company located at Sion [ which is on the Central line in Bombay ]. For the first six months I lived in Navi Mumbai / New Bombay in a small studio flat in Nerul and took the local trains everyday to and fro for work – a travle time of about 2 hours everyday.
I then moved to the “suburbs” to a place called Borivli on the Western Line – travel time from there was smiliar to the previous – except the rush. The rush was [ and still is ] crazy! The women wouldn’t even allow me to step onto the train! But I hardly travelled to work because I soon started working as an independent designer.
I have now moved back to Navi Mumbai – the train traffic is less than half that of the Western line [ New Bombay is on the Harbor line ]. Greener, less crowded, farther away from the maddening crowd of “Town” as South Mumbai is called in Mumbai english slang.
If you haven’t already realised – all of Mumbai is generally referred to by referring to the three local train zones – the Western Line, Central Line and Harbour Line.
I could go on about Bombay – one of the best places to read more about Bombay would be Wikipedia. What I am trying to do here is get you visuals of everyday life while living in Mumbai.
