Holi prasad

The sense of community in the various pockets of Bombay never fails to astound me. I’ve recently moved to Parel and here, everyone knows everyone else. There was a function in the building premises to celebrate holi – the bonfire and the sweets. Since I’m new here, I was too shy to go. At the end of the evening, the building caretaker actually went door to door distributing the prasad after the ‘puja’. Boondi and shev – sweet and mildly salty respectively.

And my building has fourteen levels. Who does that nowadays? Going door to door doing what most would call a thankless job. I was thrilled to get some prasad :)

Nishabd

First day second show.

Apart from the fact that the movie lacked depth – depth like I would have liked. There are so many nuances of romance and love that can be covered – Nishabd manages to touch the surface and comes out too close to being a ‘popcorn’ flick. For a ’serious’ movie, the theater had quite a few people in the audience who found some instances in the movie funny enough to laugh. [ That audience belonged to INOX, Nariman Point - in the 6:35pm show on Friday ].

There was a particular scene where I literally laughed my head off too – but not because I found it funny. It was ironical. Giving up everything for someone and then giving up that someone because you love them too much for their own good.

Awesome shit if you can ignore some lapses.
Amitabh’s great – no surprises there. Jia Khan is sexy, impish and very very hot. The chick who plays Amitabh’s daughter, sucks. In comparison to the rest of the cast of course. Aftab Shivdasani’s just plain wasted. The camera work is brilliant when the camera’s on Jia. Revathy’s played her part extremely well too. And the guy who plays Revathy’s brother – I didn’t bother to check who it is – he’s good too.

I think it ends abruptly though. Not that there’s anything else to add – but we’re so used to movies having an ‘ending’ that it felt a tad weird.

I’d recommend not missing it.
Oh! And the “Rozana” song is not on the film – it’s only on radio and television. So THAT sucks.
