tetrapod Sunset

This was also shot on the same day as the NCPA play [ the previous post ].
The Marine Drive promenade is protected by concrete tetrapods – for more on what a tetrapod looks like check out this page. [ via Google Search ].

During the monsoon, huge waves crash into the promenade wall and to reduce damage and frequent repairs, these concrete behemoths are placed into the sea near the wall.

play of the Sea

This is the promenade in the southernmost part of Mumbai – at the far end of the Marine Drive. The setting sun and a myriad people on thier evening walk and jog create stunning silhouettes as the lights start to come on within the city.

The first thing that most people recognize when they come to Mumbai for the first time is the smell of the sea – it is everywhere in Mumbai – Mumbai is a long, y-shaped landmass cutting into the Arabian Sea.

This was shot right in front of the NCPA [ National Center for the Perfoming Arts ] gates after watching “The Class of ‘84″, which is one of those plays that I had heard a lot about but never managed to watch – till that day when I took this shot. You can read more about the Class of ‘84.

blurred Cable

This was shot while traveling on the local trains in Mumbai. You can find out more about the Mumbai local trains [ specifically the railway map ] on the Mumbai On the Net website .

It’s a power line for the trains – I like the wispy clouds contrasted with the mechanical snake-like wires that crisscorss the Mumbai sky when you’re traveling in the locals.

Sunset from the train

When I used to live on the Western line [ there are three trainline circuits in Mumbai - Western, Central and Harbour ], this was shot while returning from a client meeting. I used to live in Borivli [ or Borivali ]. I was on the return train from Victoria Terminus [ or the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus ] to Borivli and the sun was about to disappear behind the clouds. The wires you see are the overhead electric cables for the trains.
